Does anyone else hate how the NBA overtly asks fans to vote for their FAVORITE players? It's supposed to be a reward for the best players of the year, not your favorite. This is why Shaq, Iverson, Yao, and others will always be in the game.
They ought to have a panel of sports writers pick the starters, not fans.

I totally agree, but they should not be ruled out of the entire selection completely. The point of the All-Star Weekend is to provide a show for the fans, so you can't have them have no part of selections. It should be 50% fan voting and the other 50% should be sports writers who clean up clear selection mistakes like Shaq, who has played in only 4 games and put in Dwight Howard, who is clearly better even when Shaq is 100%.

I agree with you and that many players that do well aren't voted in because fans just don't like them. But I think we have to understand is that the fans want to see these players play, if we have sports writers doing the choosing, the fans would probably disagree with someone and not attend the games or watch. But it does suck for those players who are all-stars but don't get to play because of those regular popular all-stars.

I agree completely! Its basically a popularity contest. Don't get me wrong, guys like Iverson and Lebron should be there... but Yao is definately not the best player in the league and somehow he always leads the west. Lots of China voters?lol. Any way... good point.

I know, but I think they just do the fan voting for money. If the fans vote who they want to see they would want to watch the game.

Well, it's the fans who pay these astronomical salaries, so let them have the say of who starts, and let the coaches and players vote on the subs...
