I'm a 40 year old hospital porter working at the John Radcliffe Hospital, women's centre in Oxford,UK. I've been in the maternity department for almost 11 years now and the satisfaction you get from bringing life into the world must be overwhelming. OK over in the main hospital they save and preserve life and that can't be ignored but if your asking for my opinion i'ed say midwifery, but the decision lays with you at the end of the day.
good luck, and I hope you have a bright and forfilling future.

I believe they are both highly regarded. I was an OB nurse for 20 years and worked with midwives as well as OB-GYN physicians. Obviously, one would have a bit more autonomy with midwifery; but if you choose to be a CNM, you will have to practice under a physician. As far as the financial aspects of both, my friend who is a CNM makes less money than another friend who works in a hospital setting as a Charge Nurse. Of course, the amount of money you would make depends on what part of the country you choose to work. Nursing is a wonderful profession which will affored you many opportunities. Hope this was helpful to you.
