There are *MANY* causes of spotting between periods.
Probably the most common is the use of hormonal contraceptives. Unfortunately, the (mis)use of hormonal contraceptives can mask a more serious condition = jumping to using BCPs to "regulate" your cycles may not be the best option. Another normal mid-cycle spotting can be from Ovulation. In this case you will notice the blood only about 1 day of any given cycle and it will be accompanied by a thick &/or clearer discharge and often only seen on the TP after wiping. Also the spotting will occur about the same number of days before the start of your next period from one cycle to the next. Sometimes a little spotting can occur with rougher sex. None of these are serious cause for concern.
The use of an IUD will cause an increase in inflammatory response in the uterine cavity (this is an accepted part of it's function). Some of us will experience a similar reaction to the use of Nonoxynol-9 (Spermacide).
On the flip side, spotting between periods can also be a symptom of conditions requiring medical intervention...
PID & other STDs can result in spotting and will often have other symptoms like mild fever, odor, itching, etc. You should evaluate your sexual behavior to see if you are at risk for these. You can also find plenty of info online for other related symptoms. It is very easy to get your Dr to screen for STDs - just ask.
However, You say you are experiencing "bleeding"... is the bleeding enough that you need a pad? When I think of spotting it is usually something that is barely noticed, easily wiped away, or maybe leaves you wanting to use a panty liner. Bleeding would be anything more than what would be handled by a panty liner... and would indicate a more serious condition. Some possible conditions that would lead to this level of bleeding can be as minor as a fibroid or as serious as cancer. If you are having this level of bleeding you need to be more demanding about getting a Doctor's treatment.

You could be having some breakthrough bleeding due to ovulation if it is halfway between periods. You should talk to your doctor if you have concerns, though this type of bleeding could actually just mean that you are really fertile. I have this just about every month of my cycle. For me it always coinsides with ovulation, and only lasts for 2 days or so.

Spotting is normal. Especially if you are young and you've started your period in the past three years. Your body is just sort of learning to regulate itself. It will probably pass.
If it's heavy bleeding you would want to be concerned, but a few little drips here and there are nothing to worry about.

Same thing happens to me. Are you on birth control or any kind of hormones? It could be stress or diet. It could also be skipping your birth control pills - even only one time. Many women have this problem.
If you are not on birth control, then maybe you need to be put on it to regulate your periods. Don't worry, this is normal.
