well first off, im 16 years old and i have been having problems lately. like my periods are really heavy and often painful like if i wait too long to take something before the cramps start nothing will help ease them. but as for the heavy periods.i go through about 5 pads an hour and before u know it, my pack of pads are half way gone and i barely have enough for the next time my period comes. and the thing that worries me is that i only last for 3 days.my periods should be regular because i started when i was 10. im still a virgin if that helps. oh and i havent really worked up the courage to tell my mom. my mom has been saying that she wanted me to see a gyn just for a visit to talk and meet my doctor. i really dont want to go because im worried what they may do if i tell them my prolem. i kinda have this privacy issue. is it normal for me to have heavy periods like this? please help me out with some advice. i would surely appreciate your help.

oh and lately they have been coming twice a month and then they will skip a couple.
What's going on? they started coming twice a month since december of 2004 when my granny passed away. could this be stress and that's all and nothing else to worry about and it will straighten up on its own or what

You really do need to address this with the doctor, if you don't want to discuss with your mom yet call the doctor and find out about the privacy laws in your area, however because you are a virgin there shouldn't be an issue with your mother other than concern. Some females need birth control to straighten out their flow whether you have a hormonal imbalance, uterine problems, or whatever is going on the doctor is really necessary to diagnose and treat this. Good luck and try to address this soon, there is no reason to suffer in silence.

I think it would be a good idea to see a doctor. I know it's uncomfortable, but its the safest thing to do. It's good to get yearly checkups anyway, to make sure everything is alright.

Make sure you choose a doctor you will feel comfortable with. My first experience with a gyn was far from ideal, because people in the office held strong opinions about a teen visiting a gyn for birth control, and weren't polite about it.

I've found that Planned Parenthood has really understanding staff.

Talking to the doctor about your concerns before you have a full exam might help. Remember that there are laws to protect your privacy, and your doctor can't talk to others about a patient's medical care without your permission.

Go Ask Alice.com has a lot of information about sexual health and women's help that might help you feel more comfortable about your body and about going to the doctor.

Hope this helps!

It sounds like you have somethign medically going on. I know the idea of having a stranger know all this is embarassing, but you will feel so much better if you just let mom know and get into a doctor. It may just seem a little weird and inconvenient now, but in several years, when you want to have a family, you may look back to this wiht regret. Get in treated.

You definitely should talk to the doctor. Tell your mom that you're getting older and you want her to wait in the waiting room. Since this is a change, it's not normal for you, so you should definitely get it checked out. I don't know what it means, but ignoring it probably will not make it better.

Sweetie, you really should go see a doctor right away. It could be something like endometriosis or it could be something alot more serious than that. You're too young to be this miserable.

If you don't feel comfortable seeing a male doctor, tell your mom you want to see a female doctor.
