I'm looking for a reasonably Access Point Router. What type should I get? It needs to be 802.11g, and I currently have linksys but I think its trash.

The current linksys I have is about 6 years old. A main problem with Linksys routers/access points is that they have packet loss problems that can affect online gaming. For example counter strike, if you have it along with a Linksys router you wont be able to connect to any server due to the horrible packet loss.

That is why I think its garbage. Though its good for normal surfing, when it comes down to online gaming which requires a steady strong fast signal, Linksys just does not cut it for me.

Dlink are decent.
I suggest go for Linksys as they are better and provide good performance.

I use NTL broadband in the UK and I have a linksys wireless router and my main pc is connected by ethernet and I also have 4 wireless network hubs throughout the house in different rooms. My connections are great and has been running steadily at a good speed for years now.

I would recommend linksys they are also very easy to setup. For a wireless router I dont recommend you use the Linksys software though it isnt very stable, you are much better using windows wireless network.

Linksys is actually one of the better ones. Why is it trash? The signal on wireless g is pretty strong so long as you aren't trying to go through any metal or brick, in which case any wireless signal is going to degregate horribly. As well as the options for security and ports and whatnot, its not a bad router. However, if you wanna get away from Linksys, try Netgear or D-Link. There cheaper, yet still provide the security you need. You can get any of those routers for like 50 bucks, sometimes cheaper depending on your area(here in Northeast Ohio they go for 39).

Also, make sure to change your channel on your router and your wireless card to make sure theres no interference from a neighbors house. This happened to me before.

Another option(though more expensive) is another Linksys product but its Wireless N.... if your willing to spend more money, the transfer rate and signal strength are a hell of alot better. Hope this helps.

Why do you think the Linksys is trash? I've got a Linksys b network and it runs just fine.

What specifically leads you to think it's your router problem?

Have you called their tech support?

Cisco probably leads the world in routers - maybe even invented them.
