Currently, String Theory is proving mathematically very possible. However there are currently up to five individual solutions to theory, each with different variables that all work... but which one is describing our universe? Nova had an interesting 1 hr piece on String Theory which left the solution close but not quite there yet. Scientists remain optimistic through the use of better supercoliders and a deeper understanding of whats behind quantum mechanics.

String theory will be tested via LISA and the new supercolider coming online. It will be a few years.
