Beats the hell out of me. I see it happen all the time. I guess some people don't like to be alone. I honestly don't think I could live with anyone. I love my independence.

I do believe that for many people who are mature about what marriage is really about (more than just a wedding, or the idea of "happily ever after"), marriage can be a very fulfilling thing. It strikes me as odd, too, that so many single people I know, when referring to marriage or married people, unwittingly, but literally use expressions like "happy ending" or "ending up" (not in a bad, but in a wistful way). It as if these people are looking at the "answer", and not a different way to go through life, complete with its ups and downs, companionship and loneliness. I think they are in for a big surprise, as we see from the situation you mentioned. Perhaps there should be less hype about weddings, and more hype about sharing a life (as in reality) with someone. And that sickness and health, richness and poorness, etc. (to use traditional descriptions of life-long commitment) are part of reality whether married or not. Life is life. Marriage is not just a happy ending, but really can be a fulfilling way to go through life, if you accept it as part of life, as part of reality and not some fulfillment of an immature fantasy, and respect that your spouse is an individual and not just a function of your own perfect idea of something. I appreciate your thoughts.

That may be the majority, but I have been married for 11 years and I still find him exciting. There is a positive in this sometimes.

It's an obligation for some people to seek for the most compatible match; rather than act like animals and have multiple sexual partners. I see nothing wrong with it.

I believe it is some type of overall society sickness....which I also have. People think of marriage as a safe ending to a nice fairy-tale, but we all know that marriage is often not an answer at all but a living hell. Bless you.
