I'll be at lunch with my friends and we'll talk about music. I love music from the 80's, it's all I listen to. When I told my friends about that, they made fun of me and they won't stop. I told them to stop but they won't. What should I do?

I'm 28 and that's what I grew up listening to, in fact that's all I listen to. It isn't your fault that they can't recognize good taste in music. Tell them it's your right to listen to what you like. Music now days is so generic and most bands are just a flash in the pan. The 80's music has been around because it has something to say, and if no one liked it they still wouldn't be playing it, you gave more grown up taste, tell them that you like yours and they like theirs and to get off your back. ~80's Hairband Girl

Well, that makes them look immature. Not everyone is the same. You can be your own person, & if that means being different from them, then that's great! If we were all the same, that'd be boring. Keep telling them to stop, & if they don't, say,"I wouldn't make fun of you guys for the music you like, so why are you making fun of me? That's just the kind of music I like, & you're making a big deal out of it. If I knew you were going to do this everytime I came to lunch, then I would not come."

What I would do is to work lines from 80s songs, or song titles, into the conversation just to mess with them. They probably won't catch most of the references and you'll be cracking up!

Examples: "Oh, I ran into Jessie yesterday. He was with his girl."
"OMG, there's a phone number in this stall. It says "For a good time call 867-5309." Should we call it?"
"I wanna know what love is. Don't you?"
"There's this new Chinese place, the Wang Chung. Wanna go tonight? It'll be fun!"

Find something embarrassing that they have told you about or that you have seen and tell them that if they dont stop teasing you about the music you like then you will tease them about something embarrassing about them.

Ask them how they would feel if you laughed at them for some reason.Do not let it get to you, it's your choice on what music you like and if they laugh at you perhaps it's time to find real friends.

try to find out that are they teasing to just joke around or are they mean and hurting you. the try not to be hurt, just laugh along or give them the cold shoulder, they cant stay with one joke for the rest of their lives

P.S. Good luck with that!

True friends don't deliberately try to make each other feel "bad." If you already asked your friends to "stop" but they don't, then you need to decide if they are "true" friends.

obviously your friends are jerks. they aren't being much help as friends by making fun of who your are. tell them to open their minds a little, or at least if keep their thoughts to themselves and be a bit more mature!

Tell them that everyone has the right to listen to what they like. If they don't like it then tough. But to keep their opinions to themself. If they are your friends then they will.Good luck
