I'm wondering if I should leave my computer (and monitor) always ON, even when I am not using it for several hours, or if it is better for the hardware to be switched OFF between uses. What are the pros and cons here?

hey dude....hibernate it.thats the best option if you are not using it for several hours. the benifit of hibernation is that when you start your computer again it will load very quickly ad there by saving your time.

How often do you use the computer? once a week? 3 times a day? and for how long? It is all debateable.

It is usually good to leave it on, with power settings down to whatever you feel comfortable with; i.e. shut monitor off in 30 minutes, hard drives off in 3 hours, system standby after so many hours, etc.

I would not leave it on unless it is being used as a server, because dust could build up, and that is not fun. I suggest hibernating it.
