You might be a 36c or a 34b or a 36b or a 34c depending on the type of bra, the shop, the way that particular bra has been designed and made, the material that bra is made out of etc. Also, the hook you use at the back and the length of the straps can make different bras fit in different ways. The problem isn't that bras should be standard sizes, it's that boobs are not and never will be standard sizes and as such you'll always have to move around a little bit between back sizes and cup sizes to get the best fit. The aim is to get a bra that fits regardless of the size on the label, and the size you think you are really just stops you having to take every single bra in the shop into the fitting room with you!
The best thing to do is to have a look on the internet for advice about fitting a bra (what riding up at the back means, what fourboobs means etc) then go somewhere reliable and reputable like m & s, get yourself measured and speak to the person that does it about what type of bra you are looking for. You can try a few different styles and sizes on and get a good idea of what works for you because that person will usually fit the bra for you and advise you as to why it is/isn't right. The research you've done beforehand will mean that what they're saying to you means a bit more. You only need to do this every so often- once you've worked out the basics you'll know next time what you're looking for. I usually go for a fitting before my period because I know my boobs get a bit bigger then. Hope this is useful and that you have fun!!

Have you been properly measured? 36C and 34B would fit completely different bust sizes. 36C would fit a 39 inch bust and 34B would fit a 36 inch bust.

What is your underbust measurement and measurement around the fullest part of your bust. If you can provide those details, I can give you some idea of the best bra size for you. #

For example, if your bust measurement is 36 inches and your underbust measurement is 29 inches, you would mostly like be either a 32D or a 34B. If your bust measurement is 39 inches and your underbust measurement is 31 inches, you would mostly like be a 34DD or a 36C.

different manufacturers work with different sizes. The best thing you can do is go to a department store and ask one of the assistants to measure you for a bra - if you're embarassed there's plenty of oldr ladies who will do it, and they've seen it all before! they will bring you various brassieres to try on and you will really see the difference that a well-fitting bra can make. they will also take into account your monthly cycle - it's a good idea to go mid-cycle when your breasts are normal and a few days before your period, when they're slightly larger, so you can have two sizes of bra for the different days of the month.
Get a bra fitting - you will be surprised just how much better your bra will fit afterwards.

All bra manufacturers are different, find 1 bra company you like and stick with that. If you need to be sized, go to Victoria's Secret either the store or online and you can get measured or measure yourself. Also, try www.lhj.com I went there last night and really liked it.

Look on the internet.

I am a 38J. (All natural) It almost impossible for me to buy a decent well fitting Bra in the shops.

I now buy all of mine on the internet.

Figleaves or Shapley Figures do a nice range of resonably priced lingerie.

If you find a particular make that fits well try and go directly to their website and see if you can order direct.

Go to and get a proper fitting. Different brands will vary, so buy wherever you choose to get fitted. Victoria's Secret can help you out with that, or Nordstroms also does a good job. You'll be a lot more comfortable and thank yourself afterwards.

Have you been fitted properly? Go to a good lingerie shop and get an assistant to help with measuring and fitting so you'll know your basic size. The size seems to differ among manufacturers, so try out different ones.

Unfortunately, it depends on brand and type of bra. I do the measuring under the bust and across the bust formula available at jockey and Victoria's secret, but still it depends on the style and brand. for ex. I wear 38c in one bra and 40B in another type
