Setting him up makes you into a criminal. If you know he has drugs at a given time, get him busted, but don't go baiting him or planting things on him. That makes you no better than him.

Actually, he may have already breached his probation. Speak to his PO about the abuse and ensure that your daughter will file charges. Rather than going to trial for the abuse, he may be violated back to jail for severl months to a few years.
If you believe he has harmed your granddaughter, you daughter need not file charges, the state can file on behalf of your granddaughter, but your daughter may have some trouble there for failure to protect her child from the boyfriend.

This punk seriously needs a leason. My ex-wife and I are very close and she took a boyfriend 2 years ago that kept threatening her and choking her. When I found out through my kids I took a stroll over to his apartment.
When he opened the door I calmly told him "If you ever touch her again this will be the outcome". And with that I slammed my palm into his nose and drove the cartlidge back into his skull. He never touched her or called her agian.
I protect those close to me no matter what the recourse. You as a mom need to do the same. I'm not promotoing violence but certain types only understand one type of philosophy.
Get your daughters dad involved but do not let it go. It will only get worse.
Good Luck

setting him up puts you on the same level as him...don't be that grandma....babies don't like to see grandparents in jail...
Call child welfare office to investigate..baby shouldn't be living in that house if that's what's going on..., call the police, hire a detective
Move your dqughter and grandbaby into your house. (he'll be pissed/make threats/damage property)..get a restraining order.(when he gets pissed, call the cops).if he breaks it, probation violation..
MAKE your daughter talk to someone at a shelter who can help her break this cycle before she/baby gets killed. Read the paper, the internet.....there have been several cases in the Kansas city area of the BF abusing/killing the child...just this last month or so.... one of them was a cop....PROTECT THE ONES YOU LOVE while they are still here.

Get her into a battered womens shelter. Then, take what ever legal action you need to, to make it possible to let her leave town. (See the DA's office for advice.) Then move her and your grand daughter out of town or better yet, out of state. If she had MARRIED this idiot, she would have more LEGAL rights. But since she did not, it will be a bit harder for her. But, GET HER OUT OF TOWN NOW! He will be back in jail soon enough.

I think you should stay out of it. Being manipulative will only alienate your daughter from you.
