a wax statue of a spaceman is on display in a museum.
wax models are to be sold in the museum shop.
the statue and the wax models are similar.

The height of the statue is 1.8m...
the height of the model is 15cm...
the area of the flag in the model is 10cm²...

A)calculate the area of the statue's flag....

the volume of the wax of the original statue is 172.8 litres.

B) calculate the volume of wax used to make the model.
give your answer in ml.

..........thanks

1.8m :15
180 : 15
12 : 1

area is cm^2
so 12^2 : 1^2 = 144 : 1
? : 10
ans for A) is 10*144 = 1440cm^2 = 0.144m^2

volume is cm^3
so 12^3 : 1^3
1728 : 1
172.8...................172.8/1728 = 0.1 litre =100ml
A).......0.144m^2
B).......100ml

Oh my God! i am also confusing. I don't know whether my ans is true or not. :(

A:
Statue Model
Height 1.8M 15cm
Flag Area find it 10cm^2

Lets start by using like units, convert the 1.8M to 180cm

Since 15*12 = 180, 15cm to 180 cm is 1/12 scale

Our model is 1/12 scale, but that's in both dimensions of the flag, so to find the area of the original flag we multiply the area of the model flag by 12 * 12

The statue's flag is 1440cm^2

B) This is similar, but now in 3 dimension ...

172.8 litres = 172,800ml
172,000 ml/12*12*12 = 172,000 ml/1,728 = 99.537ml

1.80 m = 180 cm
0.15 m = 15 cm
Using proportional:
a) 1,80 m = 180 cm
180/15 = x/10
15x = 180 * 10
x = 1800 : 15
x = 120 cm²
b)
172,8 is to 0.15 m and x is to 1.80. So,
172.8 / 0.15 = x /1.80 =>
0,15x = 1,80 * 172.8
x = (1.80 * 172.8) : 0.15
x = 2,073.6 litres

get the proportion of height of large one divided by height of small
that porportion squared is the porportion of the large one to the small one

then that proportion cubed is the difference in volumes.

hope that helps!
