i'm a medical technologist, and part of my job is to culture organisms from feces. it's really not all that bad. we do several types of stains, several enzyme immunoassays, and many cultures from stool samples every day. and that's just in micro. in chemistry, they can do a fecal fat analysis or fecal occult blood (blood that's not readily seen in the stool). and it's really not all that dangerous. it's actually kinda cool, to see what all is actually in feces.

A Scatologist.

Dangerous ? War reporting or sky diving is infinitely more dangerous. Scientists who study faeces do so in clean hygienic environments like labs. Also modern analysis does not require truckloads of the thing. The only thing is the so called 'social stigma'.
