I used to run and gave it up many years ago. I just have never gotten noto the way I was at one time. I would like to run a marathon before I'm no longer able to physically. How long do you think it would take to be able to run that distance. I have 10months to train.

If you're in decent shape now, 10 months should be enough. Start out running a couple miles every day, or at least five times a week. For this part, just do what comes fairly easy -- if two doesn't even get you warmed up, then do three or four. Twice a week do a longer run, increasing the distance gradually until you're doing about 15 miles. Then continue doing the 15 miles once a week, but increase the other long run gradually until you're doing about 20 miles. Try to time this so that you're doing 20 miles once a week about two months before the marathon. You might want to try the 26 miles a couple times, but you really don't have to while training. Then start dropping the amount you're running the last month, and the last two weeks just do the maintenance runs -- four or five times a week of 3 or 4 miles. (Since you said you used to run, I'll just remind you how important having good shoes is!!)

Good luck ---

PS -- If you were just asking who has run marathons -- well I did a half marathon once. I know more about it, however, from a roommate of mine who used to run them. He ran the Big Sur marathon -- The half marathon I ran was in Arizona -- a nice desert race --- the name escapes me --- it went from Bisbee to Sierra Vista -- some people did it as a double marathon -- from Sierra Vista to Bisbee and Back!!!! crazy ---
