Poor people continue to do things that keep them poor, like not seeking an education, going into deep debt for things they cannot afford, having children out of wedlock, becoming addicted to drugs and/or alcohol are just a few.
Most folks who become rich are educated, spend less money than they make, or only borrow to buy things that appreciate in value such as real property, they tend to not have children out of wedlock, they may drive a 4 year old used car instead of a new car every 3-4 years, etc.
So the rich continue to do things that help the become and stay rich, and the poor continue to do things that help them stay poor.

Take a look at other systems around the world... Norway for example has been voted as the best place to live in the world for 7 years straight... Due to it's high standards in the Environment and Humanitarian efforts... plus the Education and Medical is shared by all... Norway is a Welfare- Capitalism environment... what good is it to have millions if you don't do anything good with it? Small business in America has become unfair when competing with big guys... besides... corporations have sold out the American made dream and reputation... they sold it to the Chinese and third world manufacturers... there will soon be a new set of classifications... Super Rich, and Poor... which one will you be? Well, my guess is if you work for someone else you will be the latter.

The decrease is the rich man worked his a** off the poor man sit on his watching TV. To me the gape is so Hugh that there no comparsion. I like them hard working rich men to hell with them poor men. That bank account, billfold, and checkbook is the biggest gape of all. I'd rather be a rich man's sweetheart than poor mans slave. Got it .

I'm guessing that I have a few more years of experience than most of those who have answered. In the real world you can work your "bum" off and still not get ahead. Some of us have chosen to work multiple jobs to supply our family needs instead of asking for handouts. I look around now and see those getting the handouts doing better than exhausted, determined, hard-working, honest people. I still have no regrets because I know I did the right thing and taught my children valuable ethics. Working hard did not get me ahead. Wages seem to have gone down rather than up. What make the difference between the rich and the poor is money. Maybe having it; maybe being able to secure it to persue opportunities. Wise decisions also matter. Only 1-3% actually qualify as rich. Many choose to live in debt to feel as if they are wealthier. Things in this world rot, decay, rust . . . . things are not what really matter.

What is the poor man doing to improve his situation? The rich man got that way I figure through hard work and dedication to get where he is.
If the poor man has been lazy and hasn't cared, he should start to care and get a job and work his tail off. Also, if he wants to better himself, go back to school and get an education.
Part of the problem is people who are poor expect that handout. Quit taking a hand out.

I'm not sure if the question relates to the rich-poor gap in just one country (such as the United States), or is based on worldwide disparity between rich and poor countries.
On a worldwide basis, although there will always be pleas for more and more aid to poor countries, most rich countries' taxpayers are already contributing (whether they like it or not) huge sums in foreign aid to try to improve conditions elsewhere.
Internal to most rich countries, including the USA, taxes and social security contributions are also used as an artificial means of taking money from the rich and using it to benefit the poor. But, as with almost anything that government is involved in, the bureaucrats administering these programs make sure that they are paid, job-protected and lavishly pensioned out of taxpayer contributions, so most programs provide much less to the poor than they take from the rich.
Old fashioned charities are alive and well in the USA, and in many cases do a much better job than than government agencies in alleviating genuine hardship amongst the poor.
Between them, taxation and charitable contributions provide such huge sums of money for poor relief that it is at first glance surprising that there is still a great deal of poverty in the USA. But a major factor is the continuing flood of often very poor immigrants, both legal and illegal, entering the US; their numbers are so enormous that they swamp the government services and charities attempting to deal with the problems created by their poverty, lack of education and (often) inability to speak English.
In my opinion, the only hope of banishing real poverty in the USA (and in many European countries) is to enact severe controls on immigration; and to enforce the laws against illegal immigration.

Take away the tax loopholes for the rich, take some of the tax burden off of the middle income wage earners (their back is breaking supporting the rich and the poor), and take away some of the government programs that pay the poor to do nothing.

I don't think that the answer is to take from the rich and give to the poor. Why punish people who get educated and make sound financial decisions. I think the answer is to make sure that the poor are given every opportunity to be successful on their own. Better education is the key.

why should we if the rich man earned his money? if the poor man did nothing to help himself get money then why should we help out?
i think that its unfair that some (not all) people claim benefits when they are capable of getting a job.. the tax payers should not have to pay for them!
i think that it is wrong to take more money from the rich man just because he has more money.. if people really care about the poor people then they should donate not be forced to pay!
rich people arent all selfish with their money
