The readout comes on when you start the bike but as your riding it never changes from zero.
Anybody have insight on the technical fix?

Your digital speedometer is good, the problem is the speed sensor. It is not reading the rotations that's why your speedometer is not showing any. Have the sensor change and you're on a roll again.

Buy a shop manual and check the "speed sensor"
