For example I have a linksys router and adapter, but I want to get a new router. So would my adapter work if I bought a D-Link router? Would they work together?

Yes the will as long as the adapter says it complies with one of these standards - 802.11a, 802.11b, 802.11g. Make sure and purchase a wireless access point that uses the same protocol. If you do, then you are in luck and it should work just fine. I have mixed and matched hundreds of combinations of adapters/wireless access points/wireless routers without running into to many problems at all. If the linksys adapter that you have has a proprietary feature enabled like "Speed Booster" that particular feature will not work, but the card should work just fine for standards compliant wireless access.

Hope this helps!

Yes, the manufacturer of the wireless adapter and router shouldn't matter.

Yeah, as long as they're both using the same bands.

802.11g for example.
