I had the same problem. The problem is spyware- viruses-etc. You need a better anti-virus program than the one you are using. Avast is free (Home addition). You will only have to register it every year to keep it up to date. I have used Norton and Mcafee. This is the best one I have found. Here's the link: http://www.avast.com/

talk to your ISP the speed problem has nothing to do with your computer. Keeping your computer defraged and cleaning out cookies and stuff will keep your computer running fast. Spyware and addware do bog your system down. The best tool I have found is spy-bot search and destroy. It is a free download. The guy who makes it does take donations. I could go on and on about keeping your computer running at its best. I will say this some days I do not think it is worth having a computer. Stay away from anything that says free this or free that.

Since you say you have not made changes to your PC and are not running lots of new programs then usually the problem of slowness is caused by your service provider (ISP) being overloaded. However, if the problem persists for several days then your ISP is probably innocent and the reason is contained within your PC.
Whilst waiting to find out I suggest you run Spybot, Ad-Aware and Ccleaner all of which are available on a free download.

i wager that u have saved extra documents as well as softwares on your hard disk. Delete some softwares or documents information those aren't any further useable any extra. Your ram is having a lot less memory.Have a intense memory card clone of 512 mb. it would want to boost up your computer definately.Run defragmenter or scandisk that would want to also settle on your issues too.

i presume you mean 2.2m/bits per second, well whatever it is,internet speed can be affected by numerous factors external and internal
externally, network traffic(other users on the internet),distance from your local telephone exchange and weather all affect the speed of your internet connection,in my experience i have found that from friday 6pm to sunday 10pm are the main busy times on the internet
internally, there are more factors here and here is a list
1. clean out your temp internet files, right click internet explorer and delete temporary internet files, cookies, and history, this will help
2. run a spyware and virus scan to rule out any infection, your p.c should have both of these if not here is a link for a few free scanners
anti-virus..http://www.avast.com/eng/avast_4_home.html
anti-spyware...http://www.safer-networking.org/en/download/index.html
3. every now and again your modem/router can slow down, try turning off your router for 30 seconds and then turn it back on,if you have a wireless reset button press this for 15 seconds after you have reset your router, this is what we call a cold boot,it can speed up your connection speed
4. finally if you are using a u.s.b connection to your router, change this to a ethernet cable as this is a faster type of connection ,you can pick one of these up from argos for around £9 ...http://www.argos.co.uk/static/Product/partNumber/6766654/Trail/C%24cip%3D50277.Office%2C%2BPC%2Band%2Bphones%3EC%24cip%3D50315.PC%2Bconsumables%2C%2Bsoftware%2Band%2Bessentials%3EC%24cip%3D50323.Computer%2Bcables%2C%2Bleads%2Band%2Bplugs.htm
also a good cleaning program can help keep your p.c in good daily condition,i use a excellent program called advanced windowscare personal(http://www.iobit.com/AdvancedWindowsCarePersonal/index.html),it cleans your p.c of junk and temp internet files, ect with just one click and its totally safe to use
give all these a go and i am sure you will notice a difference in your internet speed
good luck mate

usually its caused by firewalls, virus portectors, virus, spyware, try using firefox instead of explorer, and unpgrade your cpu if possible

hoever I do not recomend uninstalling anti virus and firewalls if they are alreadyu installed, as when you do, for some reason it turns your computer into a magnet to what the programswere meant to "protect" you from, buts thats another desscusion

If you've got Norton Security, get rid of it. That's usually the cause. I changed mine ASAP, & it's ok now. Ask your provider for info about its own security package.
