A good underwire can lift ans serperate like nothing else can. Try to get an underwire that is a heavy plastic or encased really well. Also getting fitted for a bra that is an underwire can really make mountains out of everything. There are even underwires with small air inserts that can add a cup size and put it right where it belongs.

Some women don't like underwire because they are uncomfortable. You will have to try on a few styles and see if it works for you.
I wear only underwire bras because they offer good support. Some women find the wires too rigid, or that they poke (esp on the underside of your arm or the top side of your breast, depending how you are shaped).
Underwire bras are also easy to use with pads/cookies if you want a little extra "size" to your breasts, and they are also the more common type of bra used for cleavage enhacing and plunge styles.
Are they better? *shrugs* It depends on what you want and the look you are trying to achieve. If it's simply comfort you desire, there may be better choices...try 'em out and see...

For support yes. For comfort, no.
If you get an underwire at Wal Mart or Target you are going to be hurting.
If you get one from a higher end brand (Kohl's is a good place to look for selection, I especially like the Olga line), you are going to get better support with less discomfort.
If you are young and everything is in the right place, you don't need to worry so much about support. Then it's just a matter of keeping everything in the right place and feeling good with what you are wearing.

be sure to get a bra that fits properly. Even when i wore 34 A i wore the underwire. you get used to it and if the bra fits properly you wont even notice you are wearing one. the underwire lifts and separates. it holds the girls up better than a non wire bra.

it helps, but sometimes if you don't get the right one, the wire becomes weak and finds its was out and pokes you in your tots for the rest of the day...very uncomfortable
