I am being referred to a urologist for reoccuring urinary tract infections? I am nervous about going to the urologist what should I expect from the visit? Has anyone been to one before?

Nothing to worry so far. The urologist might refer you to do some tests (that do not hurt) like x-rays of your kidney and bladder etc. First of all all possibilities must be checked before a treatment can be recommended. Many women - some say 10-20% - suffer from reoccurring UTI's there is a lot you can read on the web. If the urologist finds nothing wrong with your organs than its usually a problem of intercourse. Women's urethra is in constant pressure during intercourse and sometimes the bacteria that exists in the area is pressed into the bladder and then you have UTI. Women are advised to drink a lot, pee before after intercourse, try to avoid intercourse during menstruation etc. Here are some websites:

Urologists generally do not probe for urinary tract infections. I would not worry that you'll be placed in a gown and poked and prodded with all types of cold instruments.

They will usually just do some testing of your urine.
