I get a new hairstyle or color, my mother attempts to copy it. I get new glasses, my mother goes and gets similar ones. I get a new job, mother wants the same job. I go back to school, mother wants to take classes now. I get a pair of shoes, mother goes and buys similar ones. Why is she doing this? What is going through her skewed mind?

Clearly she has respect for you and thinks you make good decisions. It might be annoying to you, but it's really great how much she thinks of you. Some mothers are overly critical of what their daughters do, but yours is so supportive she wants to emulate it.

I think you should talk to her about it, but don't be angry at her. I'm sure that if you ask her about it, you'll find out she does those things because she likes you and trusts your decisions.

I'm guessing that your mother had you at an early age maybe? I'm no pro at this kind of thing, but maybe she sees herself in you. Maybe watching you make choices for yourself instills a desire for the same in her own life. Sometimes parents relinquish that part of their life when they begin parenting, only to rediscover it when their children have all grown.

Your mother is having a midlife crisis.
everyone does and it will pass.
until then try to remember imitation is the most sincere
form of flattery. so take it as a complement that she wants
to emulate your looks and lifestyle.
