When I got married, my ex and I never applied for a marriage certicate.
How will this affect my divorce or filing for a divorce?
We did get married in a church.

The Father gave us this piece of paper but he said it wasnt a certicate and that we had to send in this yellow sheet to get it. He said we had 6 months to do it, but we never did it.

If you got married in a church, but never filed the for a marriage certificate and never mailed in what your pastor told you to, then there is no sense in applying for a divorce. Legally, you are not married. All you had was a ceremony.

For applying and obtaining a residence visa for your wife you do not have to involve your Embassy. You should only have your marriage registered at your Embassy so that your marriage is also valid in India. Please follow these steps: 1. have your marriage certificate translated into Arabic by an authorised translator. 2. take your marriage certificate to Department of Justice for stamping 3. take your marriage certificate to the Ministry of foreign Affairs for another stamping. Each stamping might cost Dhs 50 or a bit more. Now you can apply for the visa. Take care. edit Dana: The asker's wife can't do anything in India. They got married here in church and here (Dubai) the marriage certificate will be verified. The registration of the marriage at the Indian Embassy in the UAE is irrelevant for the visa application.

Some states allow a 1 year grace period to submit the marriage certificate. We got a notice 8 months after our wedding date that the state did not receive our certificate and wouldn't acknowledge the marriage if it hadn't been turned in within the 1st year. I would say contact your local county clerks office and find out what you should do.

You need to go to a divorce lawyer and ask him all these questions. A lawyer will be able to file for what you need and know all the laws in the state. Otherwise you are just wasting time, If you want to legally divorce there is no other way to do it but by the book.

You are none the less legally married, You may have to obtain a copy of the certificate, which is on file somewhere, (probably the city hall). It does not affect a filing of divorce.

I had to have a marriage certificate before I was married...you better check, because it doesn't sound like you are even "legally"
married....states are different....but I would check into that.

I would think that you weren't legally married, then. In the eyes of the church, yes. In the eyes of the law, no.
