Two days before the test you need to avoid using tampons, vaginal creams, suppositories, and medicines, vaginal deodorant sprays or powders, and having sex. Doing this can cause wrong test results by washing away or hiding abnormal cells of the cervix. If you have done any of this, you need to inform your doctor.

A pap smear refers to a pattern of cervical wall cells that are received by technique of scraping the cervix throughout a pelvic exam. docs often also visually word the cervix in the course of the smear to come across any abnormalities. truly you lie on your decrease back or your area on the exam mattress/table. An device noted as a speculum is slid gently into your vagina and then opened so as that the healthcare specialist can see the cervix obviously, with the help of a basic. The smear is then inquisitive about a skinny spatula and a delicate brush. that's an truly skinny quantity of mucus with cells that sit on the exterior and the small starting of the cervix. The smear is then placed on a pitcher slide, that's dispensed away to be examined. Pap smears are major because they could come across cancer of the uterine cervix or precancerous circumstances and abnormalities of the cervix that would want to steer on to cancer. each and every woman must have a pap smear executed oftentimes once she will develop into sexually energetic or is eighteen years of age (which ever comes first). In Australia the position I stay, that is advised that a smear should be executed each and every 2 years, notwithstanding it will be diverse contained in the US / uk / Europe and elsewhere. I actually have had a lot of pap smears and to be straightforward, they are extra embarrassing than uncomfortable...it in user-friendly words takes about a minute for it to be throughout too. wish this facilitates answer your question! :)

You do have an answer from and RN, and an RN would most certainly know. I was going to suggest calling your doctor's office and asking or calling health hot line (generally there are staffed by RN's) and asking, but you have an RN's answer.

Intercourse is far from the only form of sexual activity. You could certainly try incorporating other forms into your lives, and more often than simply before a pelvic exam. But you still need to ask if an artificial lube or saliva will affect your test results.

I've always been told to abstain from intercourse for 24 hours before an exam and Pap, just to be on the safe side. You can still have fun doing other stuff :)

You can. I have many of times but it's hard for the doctors to give you a good exam. Because of the semen from the guy and because it is also very wet in side of you from your hormones. unless you use a condom there is also precome that comes out of a guy that is also still there after sex. So your best bet is just to wait until after.Your pap test in more important then having sex.
