To find the subject:

1. Who performs the action?
2. What's the word that may be replaced by a proper name?
3. What's the word that has one of the three genders (masc., fem. and neuter)?
4. What's the word that agrees with the verb in number (singular and plural) and person (I, you, he, she, you, we)?
5. What's the word that refers to people, animals or things?

To find the predicate:
1. What's the word that makes a statement about the subject?
2. What's the word that refers to the action performed by the subject?
3. What's the word that indicates an action (= "to travel") or a state (= "to be")?
4. What's the word that tells something about someone (or something else)?
5. What's the word that may be conjugated in different tenses (present, past, future)?
