Rapunzel.
They got down because the witch turned the prince into a bird and made rapunzel go blind AND cut off all her hair. She fell out of the tower, (or else the witch just stuck er in the forest, whatever version you want) and as is prone to happen with fairy tales, survived the fall, apparently to meet a tragic demise. She meets up with Bird Charming in the forest, they still love each other, blah blah blah. Over time her hair grows back (obviously), and then one time the bird is crying and his tear lands in her eye or something and she can see again, and then the spell breaks and they live happily ever after. quite touching. I'm a little fuzzy on the details, but that's basically how the story goes, unless you wanna watch barbie version, which is totally different i think.
ciao!

rapunzel?
basically, there's this old peasant couple who are really poor who live next door to this witch. she's pregnant, and has cravings for this type of cabbage from the witch's garden. so one day he sneaks in through the hedge to steal a couple of the witch's cabbages for his wife, but she catches him, and says in compensation, she wants their first child.
so when the couple have this girl (rapunzel), the witch takes her away and locks her in a really tall tower.
one day, the handsome prince comes riding by, and rapunzel is singing to pass the time, and the prince hears her and falls in love. so he hides, and sees how the witch calls "rapunzel, rapunzel, let down your hair", and climbs up her hair to the tower.
so then later on he tries the same, and calls out, and rapunzel lets down her really long hair, and the prince climbs up it to see her, and they fall in love and agree to marry.
but the witch finds out, and is angry. she cuts off rapunzel's hair, and ties it to the window. when the prince comes back the next day and cries "rapunzel, rapunzel, let down your hair" the witch lets down the hair, tied to the window. when the prince gets to the top and sees the witch, she tries to scratch his eyes out. he's terrified and jumps out of the window - into the thorn bushes below. the prince is blinded by the thorns, and ends up poor and lonely.
as a punishment for seeing the prince, the witch takes rapunzel to the desert and leaves her there.
eventually the prince ends up in the desert too, and he hears rapunzel singing. they meet, and she cries over his blinded eyes, and he can magically see again, and they live happily ever after despite the witch.

In my fairy tales book, the prince cried out to her, "Rapunzel, Rapunzel, let down thy golden hair." So romantic- I loved that story- it was one of the first ones I learned to read all by myself when I was a real little kid..
