From what I've heard, those 2.7L V6 engines are NOTORIOUS for sludge build-up in the engine due to the following: small oil passages on that particular engine, and the fact that the catalytic converters are extremely close to the engine block on that particular setup, which tends to "cook" the engine oil, and cause the sludge build-up, which in turn causes a restriction in oil pressure to moving parts. I've been told that anyone who owns ANY LH cars (Intrepid, Concorde etc.) equipped with the 2.7L V6s should have the oil changed at HALF the normal recommended service intervals. In other words, if the recommend interval is every 3 months or 3000 miles, do it every 1 and a half months or 1500 miles then. I know this sounds stupid, but apparently if you take a tour of the shop in ANY Chrysler dealer shop, you will almost ALWAYS see at least ONE 2.7L V6 engine sitting on the ground in the shop somewhere.

I have a 93 one and it runs pretty good. I hit 300K last Dec. and it still going like new.

Does it clanks in every start? If it only does it in a cold start maybe the engine shake when it starts and it touches some mechanical parts in the hood area. If it does it even in a warm start too there's got to be something loose inside or your oil is not in the right level or it needs oil change badly. You think the oil is just for lubricating sometimes but in an engine it does more than that. Have the oil changed if it still clanks then it's times for Mr. Engine Doctor. I hope you'll find what's wrong with it pretty soon. They're reliable cars, I like it.

1. Drive it to your favorite mechanic, and turn it off.
2. Bring him out to the vehicle, start it.
3. Ask him "What do you think that clanking noise is?"
4. Listen to his answer.

You might try purolator oil filters. They have a vavle in them that keeps the oil from draining from the head. Fram only has it in the expensive filter. Oil change places use the cheapest they can find. If it rattles cold, thats your lifters. Most American cars do that.
