Ebay is a fee sucker! But you can beat it.
The best way to make money online is ebay if you can find direct importer and having them dropship the products for you. If you are novice to ebay then do lot of research. Usually you get frustrated first few days because you might not sell anything and end up owing money to ebay for listing fees. Keep out of products that are sold directly by manufacturers or importers because you are not going to be able to compete with them. There are still some new products that importers and Manufacturers dont sell on ebay so you still have a chance. Once you get into ebay and build customers, even when the big ones come in, you will already have your customerbase and keep making money. Right product, Right Timing is the Key.
Be careful about ebay fees. Ebay charges fees even if your auction end unsuccessfully. Do a lot of research to find, best categories, (cheap categories that might fit that product). Sometimes one product can fit in many different category and you might end up paying double the fees if you put on wrong category.
I saw a guys listing a 49cc atv under eBay Motors > Powersports > ATVs > Other Makes and paying $30 for each listing and $60 when the item sells. He has a good profit margin on this item and he is making about $100 each time. But there is a special category for the same product where the fee would have been only $6 for listing and another $6 if the item was sold.
Instead of making $100 each item he would have made $ 148. He was lucky that he was still making money even after paying such hefty fee. Not all items you have so much margin. So do your homework before you list anything.
Myself I prefer own website and advertise using google adwords and overture. I don't do that any more though because I do wholesale and let other people do the retail and I help them do the retial by setting up google adwords account, merchant account etc.
I import Fitness equipment, ATVS , Dirt Bikes, Scooters, Motorcycle from China. If any of you guys want to sell it on ebay or your own website, I can dropship it for you. E-mail me at onlywholesale2006@yahoo.com

EBay sucks in that regard. My wife had won a bid on an item and then couldn't buy it, but the woman selling it had a fit and sent a snotty email to her. Some people get an attitude on eBay and they can be unreasonable when a purchase doesn't work out.

you have to pay the listing fee only if it does not sell.
if it sells, you also pay a % of the selling price as a "final value" fee..
