From this distance (USA) I'd say that a primary problem is that a huge amount of your talent leaves the country! Here we've got tons of Indian immigrants, and most are working hard and doing quite well. I saw the same thing in Canada as well. I have to wonder if leaving the country is part of getting a college degree there?
So, one of the problems (or at least the result of other problems) is the huge brain-drain out of India. Those that are educated leave for higher wages, instead of returning to their home to build up that local economy.

proverty prevails n india due to unemployement & also not getting good education . people are skilled and talented but there are no means in india to show there skill ability because we know that every department under goverment is fully corrputed so the person havng good skill never gets job as the person haviing some back and some money makes hom to get a job.
also the children starting working at the age of 14 should also be stopped so that they can get good education so that they get good job and also the edu cation upto 14 should be free

It is true that poverty still prevails in India despite blessed by nature with abundant natural resources and skilled manpower.
I think this is due to the politics. Politicians are misusing their power and playing with the law. Indian judiciary is not at all effective. Western countries developed due to technology and their judiciary system played a vital part.
India should do the same to reap its benefit with strong judiciary.

I think it is because your cultural values encourage large families. This worked very well in the past, when disease and infant mortality was rampant, and lots of children were needed to ensure some of them would survive. But now, those same values result in high population growth which reduces the gross domestic product per capita. A large workforce is a good thing, though. I think India will do very well as it's culture gradually changes.
