he biggest cause of the downfall in indian Hockey is the management in the form of Mr.K.P.S. Gill. He has been around for years , but the standard of the sport is going down like crazy.
The lack of good playing grounds , the lack of investment in the betterment of the game by the Governmant and the private investors and the lack of good coaches and transperance in the selection are the major caues which is hindering the progress of Indian Hockey.
Also as compared to others sports like tennis or even cricket the players are not given a good salary and this factors compounded together are some of the causes of the downfall of Indian Hockey.
Also the sports is not encouragd from the grass root levels.

becuz their hamsters got tired and stopped running around the circle. This caused the generators to stop cooling the ice, which then melted in a matter of minutes causing the entire hockey team to get drenched in malaria infested water. The whole hockey team now has malaria and cannot play, and therefore India sucks at hockey right now

This is not a matter to be discussed openly as the same is being discussed in Cricket. Indian experts are trying their best to bring back the performance that will achive international status. However the major cause is lack of continuous practice sessions. Practice makes a man perfect. In place of discussion we should concentrate only on practical aspect of Hockey in place of abusing coaches, administrators & association.

Just a word of advice "rohith," when North Americans say "Hockey" they mean Ice Hockey. When we talk about your kind of hockey we say Field Hockey! Just like when North Americans say "Football" they don't mean real football they mean American Football. When they mean real football they say Soccer! Well, same with hockey.
Anybody from Canada, the United States, Russia, Scandanavia, central Europe mentions the word "hockey" they are automatically referring to Ice Hockey. So when you mention "hockey" and "India" in the same sentence in a web site from the US, you are going to get the immediate reaction: "what the hell.......?"
(there are actually people of Indian descent who do play professional hockey in the NHL, but that strangeness happens ONLY in Canada!)

i dont see people taking hockey as a major sports as cricket. Its taken as " some other game ". Also i dont see the charm and money that a person gets in other international games in hockey. In my prospect we should change the face of indian hockey and make it more challenging as well as more functional in monetary terms. This is the only way to make us come ahead of competition as our players are capable of winning consistantly.

They have to practice on turf, but India cannot afford to get it for them only for practice.
