this is my first child and I am also 38 weeks pregnant (39 on tuesday) I have had a constant back pain for about a month now. when I lay down it feels better but when I move around it takes me awhile to get in a position that is comfortable for my back. I've also been having painless contractions, so I don't know if I'm having braxton hicks or when I do go into labor if it will be the real thing, because I haven't felt any pain other than my back and knees. to relieve the pain you can try heat pads, or soaking in a bath, or hot shower. it usually works for me, when my partner's not around to massage the area.

i have a 2 week old son now and let me tell you. Back labor is the devil!!! I had back pain my whole pregnancy but it got more intense in the last 3 weeks or so. It is a definite sign that you are getting closer. The lower pain is also a sure sign. I had my son at 39 weeks and trust me you will know when it is time to go.
If the pains seem to get stronger down below then start to time them and see how far apart they are. I went to the hospital at 5 minutes apart and they sent me home!!! Either way you will know when you are ready to go!!! Good Luck

Baby is probably just coming down from 0 to -1 station. It may be putting pressure on your sciatica. However if that dull back ache starts to send pains that wrap around to the front of the belly then what you are experiencing is back labor.

This could be because of muscle fatigue or dehydration. Why don't you try some time tested home remedies? I found this website very useful. http://aches.in/cramps.html
