Competition is necessary for the species to evolve. The more ruthless the competing interests the faster the pace of progress.
Even seemingly benign species compete and dont get along universally, look at cats and dogs. Blocks of unity like nation states can offer some unity, but universal unity thats a far stretch.

Perhaps we can be...it won't be an overnight thing. Could it be that the European Union is the beginning of just such a united Earth?

We would all be more at ease if we could all take a break and tell a joke and giggle with each other, but I suppose we don't all have the same senses of humor...

Division is part of our nature. As long as all human beings their own separate physical existence, they will remain separate. Unity is a matter of necessity for the sake of survival.

not everyone has the same beliefs or faith ...maybe thats why is there a lot of personal conflicts between people and religion in this world..

we always want someone or something to compete with and compare to. Within immediate families, siblings compete, in school, sports teams compare, in friehdships, cliques compare, at work co-workers compare, there's always someone or something to compete and compare with no matter what.
