that a wise man and a wise guy mean 2 different things?

Good question. Im not really sure..but i think its cuz wise guy has become more of "slang term"..its like sarcasm, just like the term, "gee, thats great" can be considered sarcastic. It all depends how you say it, but wise guy become a common enough term now to have its own definition (i.e. wise guy = a-know-it-all).

I think its mostly cuz lots of normal words have derived into a whole other bunch of words, saying the same thing, but meaning the complete opposite.

Just my opinion though. Hope it helps. =)
