The Mafia is still live and well, many parts of the country, they may not have the characteristics of the 20's-30's etc but they are there in giant and small business. Mafias were also families.

the italian mafia are smarter than the russina mafia. the russians continue to kill at will but the italians have invested in legal businesses especially the concrete companies around new york. this helps them keep their hands clean but they are still there
