Have you run the installation CD for the Belkin? You need to configure the Belkin for your high-speed access -- most DSL is PPOE and requires the userid and password configured on the Belkin.

short answer you need to install the software for your ISP and the modem they may have provided before you can use the belkin modem router (i had the same [problem).
if you do not have a modem from your ISP do not panic. your ISP should have driver software on there website. just pick a modem and download and install the software.
now run the set up disc for the modem router and only plug in the modem router when asked to do so, the instructions could nbot be clearer on the CD, it gives you a step by step diagram.
your modem router need to have the control panel manualy set for your ISP.
you need to know the user ID and password for your ISP. this may be an emaiul address such as your.name@isp.ext or other form. see your existing modems confiuguration if in doubt. failing that consult the online help section for your ISP.
you then need to make sure the box marked dial on demand is ticked.
once all the settings match your ISP you are in business. but remember to configure your modem router you need to be connected via ethernet cabl;e. it refuses to connect out of the box to a wireless network until properly configured.
remember to set your systems security properly to use wpa or wpa2 and aes or tkip with the longest string of garbadge you can think of as the pre shared key. each computer on your lan will need this key to access the wireless network.
also enable mac address filtering, and set to allowed and enter the MAC address of all your network hardware authorised to connect to your router and lan.
once properly configured your system should be as secure as you can get enabling safe data transmission between your computer and the internet and other computers and devices on your LAN.
it is easy, you just need to know what you are doing. and like i said, the CD has detailed step by step instructions, however your ISP may not be listed, so you will need to find the settings either in your old modem and copy the over to the belkin or by reading the online help section of your ISPs website.
good luck. i hope that points you to a solution that works for you.
i almost forgot you need to make sure that you only have the wireless network card as active in the list of available network connections if you want to use wireless only. and this is what i believe your internet explorer may be refering to. wired or wireless how would you like to connect?
it could be that easy. and i hope it is. but you now have all the information you need to complete the task!

Hrm, I know those wireless router / modem combos are pretty touchy. I would disable the regular modem or whatever, since I'm assuming you got something like DSL. Then, make sure you are not trying to connect wireless yet. Go to network connections and make sure the Ethernet one is not disabled or anything. Other than that, it should work, unless IE has some settings which are linked to the modem previously.

Try going to Internet Options in the control panel. Then click on the connections tab. Here you should be able to select Dial whenever a network connection is not present or never dial. That should stop it trying to dial with the modem when your network cable is connected to the router. If it is set to always dial that would cause your problem.

Do not worry.
Internet Explorer has a setting to tell it where to find access to the interent, it sound like it is still set to look for your dial up modem. If it offers you a choice - choose LAN and then automatic.
Otherwise in IE select tools, Internet Options, Connections
If you can select Never dial.
Select LAN settings and then automatic, OK.
Close IE and reopen it.
If you have TCP/IP installed and your network card setup, it will now look for internet via your router.

a million. a greater value-effective router in many situations skill that the selection/information superhighway speed are not as sturdy, so it relies upon on what you like from it. 2. A router sends out a sign in a 'around' container, so which you would be able to get entry to it from everywhere interior the living house, reckoning on the flexibility of the sign. 3. If the selection is undesirable in one part of the living house, attempt moving the router, or utilising a greater useful instant card/receiver on your workstation/workstation (you may get some USB ones that is greater useful than the customary ones your workstation comes with).

I had a similar problem once. Have you tried setting your modem to "never dial a connection", from the control panel options.
