It's an ancient death ritual. Egyptians used to do this to symbolize the milk of Isis. By putting breast milk into the mouth of a corpse (usually of high society) the deceased would become the surrogate son of Isis and protected in the underworld. In Caesar's case, it would make him the son of Juno.
