It depends on how much formula first. Enfamil makes a formula with rice in it so obviously it is NOT bad. If it is so hazardous then maybe we need to have the Enfamil AR taken off the shelves don't you think.

It is fine to give baby rice. I went through all the "you'll choke baby, baby will be fat, etc" comments, too. The main thing is to do just what you as a good mom always have to do: check the stools to make sure they're not too firm and watch baby drink to assure no choking. I put 2-4 tablespoons into about 2 or three ounces of breastmilk or formula. (Depending on the time of day and the mood of the girl) My baby was big and insatiable. She's more satisfied now. I checked with the docs, mothers, mother in law and the wonderful Yahoo! answers community. It has worked for us.

There is no good reason to stretch your baby's milk. Nutritionally, breast milk and/or formula is all a baby requires until about 6 months of age. If you give your baby solids before then it is replacing the needed nutrients he/she would get from the breast milk/formula. There are some parents who swear that adding cereal to a baby's bottle makes them sleep longer, but every study done has shown there is no difference for sleep patterns with or without cereal. A baby's system is not developed enough to properly digest solid foods. I suggest that you don't put cereal in your baby's bottle.

They say one tablespoon for every 4 tablespoons of milk.
I know many people do this but I have been reading that this is not a good idea to do this as you want you baby to learn how to swallow from a spoon. This take training like all other milestones and putting it in a bottle does not train these muscles.

Try feeding your baby the rice cereal. People say putting it into the bottle can be a choking hazard .I've never personally had a problem but I did start feeding my children when they were 2 months old. My oldest could even put his spoon to his mouth at 3 months! None of my family believe me so i took a picture of him feeding himself...LOL...I love that picture. You can start feeding your baby the cereal with a small spoon try not to make it too pasty. This will prepare him/her for when you introduce baby food such as veggies and fruits. Then she/he will have that motor skill... Good Luck

When a baby eats rice cereal this way, he or she isn't realizing how full they are actually getting. Rice cereal expands in a little tummy, especially a tummy that is so new. If you give cereal to your baby this way you will be causing them to overeat. Not to mention that the benefits of cereal are not as great as formula or breast milk, so you essentially are filling your baby up on empty calories.
I know that women have been doing this for years, but it really is frowned upon. I hope that you will think twice before doing it.

Rice cereal in a bottle poses a choking hazard. It can be beneficial when the baby has reflux however. If baby is old enough for rice cereal they should be eating it off of a spoon, not in a bottle.

I'm guessing that your baby is still little and not old enough to feed with a spoon, when my kids were babies, they wouldn't stay full for too long, so I added about 1 to 2 teaspoons of baby cereal to their bottles. They were satisfied with that.

It is not recommended to put cereal in a bottle. It can cause choking and over eating. Just go ahead and start giving the baby cereal with a spoon.
