African American? From England? Would he not be a Black Englishman? African American has taken on a very Generic meaning these days. Media types tend to forget where thay are and have even referred to Blacks in South African as Minorities when in fact they are Majorities.
It has to do with the mental impairments of the person speaking such Blasphemy.
I'm born in the United States of American and as such I am An American who is Black, African (descent) American, Black or Person of color in a WHite majority. Anyone born in Africa is African-Whatevea and the same applies to Europe.
If you moved across the pond you'd be an English/European-American, and the white from SA would be African/S.African-American.

A black person living in England is English by nationality.
A white person living in South Africa is South African by nationality.
Nationality and ethnicity are NOT the same thing!

Living in England has nothing to do with being an American. So they wouldn't be considered African American. They would be English with African descent. (If their family is from Africa)
The white person would be considered African American if they became an American citizen.

Why is it that a black person born, raised, and living in England is considered an African American...? Black ppl born, raised, and living in England are our (black Americans) relatives due to common ancestry.
Ppl should know that they are African British, African English, etc., but they call them anything except for what they are - African. If British, etc. don't want to call them English, British, etc. with African, then I think they shouldn't call them colored. It is offensive in America, but it is a world wide known offense to Africans (black featured ppl) and their descendents all over the world.

I don't consider a black person from the UK to be African-American--you'd be a black person from the UK. Just because 'you'(general you- not specific you) are black & in the US doesn't necessarily mean you are African-American. It's a bit presumptuous to assume that ALL black people are African-Americans.
I just call black people, black people.

African in in the term African-American only refers to INDIGENOUS African people and their descendents---and most of them are black. Only in North Africa are they not usually, and they tend to identify more as Arab, Berber etc.
