Why do they call soccer "football" when it's just some crappy foreigner's sport?

American football is the greatest game of all, and I'm tired of other countries trying to steal its name.

it is as they say a game where only the feet and occasionally the head and body are used. Football is an old game, the only country that calls it soccer is us here in the USA.

Just because we are Americans, we don't have the market cornered on great sports! Football is played in every nation on this planet. Hockey is also another "crappy foriegner sport" played by many nations (not all) .

The two largest growth youth sports in the USA in the last 20 yrs? Soccer as we call it and Hockey.

so now what do you wish to ask that might actually sound intelligent? Your question deserves all the ridicule it gets.

Since Futbol/Football/Soccer has been around for a few thousand more years (in some form) than American Football I would think that the name was used to describe it FIRST, so how the rest of the world could be accused of "stealing the name" makes no sense.

Other countries stealing the name football? Ummmmmm I may be a girl but I DO know that futbol was played first than American football and the sport is NOT crappy! Foreigner's have much much more passion for their futbol or soccer if you want to call it that and you can tell they are fans not like fake fans with American football.

Besides "soccer" has been around longer then football. So technically american football stole it from soccer
In soccer players constantly kick the ball. thats why its called foot-ball.

In football[amercain] the are olny 3 occasions were the ball is kicked.
1. field goal.
2. Punt
3. Kickoff.
1and 3 are kind of the same thing.

The only reason football is still called football, is because its to late to change it to something more apropriate.

+If you compare the number of people who watched the superbowl 2 the number of people who watched the World Cup. It can easily be 10x more.

when you think of it soccer is played mainly with your feet so it would make sense that it is called Futbol, I too love American Football but maybe because soccer was played first.
