According to dictionary.com, a pheromone is "any chemical substance released by an animal that serves to influence the physiology or behavior of other members of the same species."

Humans definitely have pheromones!
One study had different men around the same age wear the same undershirt while they slept for a week. When they had women smell those shirts, the women had different reactions to the individual shirts. What they found was that the women preferred men who had immune systems that were most different from their own (so that their offspring would have a stronger, combined immune system). What's important to note is that there wasn't one particular pheromone preferred by all the women; each was different according to the individual.
More research has been done on women who synchronize their menstrual cycles when living together, and this phenomena has been shown to be caused by the release of pheromones too, showing that they're not only for the opposite sex.

As far as detecting your own pheromones, the answer is yes, but it depends on the pheromone. Not all pheromones are scents- some are just inhaled without triggering olfaction. Also, we become desensitized to scents we continually smell over long periods of time (for example, when you walk into a smokey room the smell is very strong, then after an hour you barely notice it). However, showering and other hygiene practices change our odors and pheromone levels, so there's enough difference to be detected. Just about everything emitted from the body is slightly unique to the individual and many can be considered pheromones, from sweat to urine.
