I've worked with it for a long time. It's not "play".
The "Talking Board" is a tool. You use it as you use any other tool, to achieve a purpose. Like reading tarot cards, or using Rune stones, you are looking for answers.
You need to know what the questions are, what spirits you want to speak with, and why you want to bother them.
Most people working with a talking board have one person recording questions/answers while a couple of others work the planchette. This enables a fair reading, with two or more people receiving the connection from the spirits and one person sitting outside the event recording it to reference later.
This is an easy way to start working with spirits. The board is a good tool, easy to use, and very much misunderstood. We are not talking possession here, we are talking channeling or connecting subconsciously with the spirits.
Working with a group also gives you a feeling of comfort as well. There really is nothing to be afraid of, but so many people approach this as a "spooky" thing and get scared. OK, you are trying to talk with spirits, what did you expect? The planchette is going to move. Sometimes spirits are a little excited and there may be quick movement, or a little surge of energy and the planchette may jump. But you are dealing with spirits... what do you expect? Then don't get scared of it, work with it, you are getting results!
What I would caution you about is something most folks don't think about till sometimes after the fact. If a person is a liar in life, what makes you think they are changed after death? If you call up Uncle Arthur and he was one of those types who couldn't keep his hands off the ladies and was foul mouthed, what do you think he will be like wandering the other side? He does not change.. and it is possible that your discussion will turn XXX very quickly if he gets into it with that cute little lady sitting with you. Remember, people are going to be just like they were when they were alive. If they were pissy people, chances are, they are pissy spirits.
So, rely on a Guiding Spirit to help you contact exactly who you want to speak with, remember that the person you choose to speak with could very well be a jerk, and have someone record your work so you can review it and analyze it later.
Have fun.

Yes. But I thought in my head "bananarama" and that's what it spelled out. Don't trust them- they just respond to subtle hand vibrations that even you don't notice.
Yes, this is a serious answer. Although they're fun, don't bet your life on them.
