i'm from ireland and i done something similar to this a few years ago. i was advised of 2 different routes, the first was to put and article into a few local papers and hope that the local businesses are nice people who care about the community. the second was to approach numerous businesses and ask for a donation, tell them that there will be an article in the paper and you will give a thank you to each company who sponsored you, this is like an indirect way of naming and shaming those who didn't contribute and companies wouldn't like that bad reputation. is it in a close community, you could ask people to sponsor a brick or window and try getting the whole building sponsored. mention to the companies that if they wanted they could become the main sponsors and get their name on the front door.

I think what you're wanting to do is great, and I commend you for wanting to do it; you must be a really great person. I would type a letter explaining exactly what I wanted to do and pointing out how this would benefit the youth in your area and give them something positive to do. Make a list of the things you'll need, and ask them to pledge a donation. Send the letter to everyone you can think of, then call and ask for an appointment to see someone. Talk to them about it, and call them up in a few days to ask them if they've thought about it and if they'd like to make a pledge. Ask them to send you a letter explaining how they'll help. Once you have a few letters to show to other companies and people will see that you're serious and be more willing to make a pledge, too. Also, try calling newspapers and telling them what you're trying to do. If someone does an article about it, you'll reach all kinds of people you weren't able to before. Good luck!

Your local council should be able to offer advice on this and perhaps a grant to assist you. You could also approach your local paper and see if they would publish an article, which would give you some publicity and may generate interest. I know a little about Sport England, but not sure of the funding criteria

Also, perhaps the National Lottery funding:

I wish you success

Maybe type a letter explaining what your intentions are in detail. Then you can approach each company (and don't forget politicians) and briefly explain, then leave the letter. Also, you will need something for the "what's in it for me" attitude of today. Tell them you plan to put their names in a news article/advertisement and on certificates or something displayed at the club. Also, some local churches might help.

Most larger companies have some 'community' funds to keep them in good standing with their neighbours but don't approach the smaller businesses as they are probably just keeping their heads above water.
First of all, ask yourself - what is in it for THEM? That's the key point, not what is in it for you! Why should they give you money? Answer: because you will promote their name/brand, etc. So you have to approach them with ideas about how their name will be prominent, etc., - perhaps yyou could get people to wear their T-shirts or promote their products, etc. You will have to give this some thought as this will be their first question ...
Good luck.
