when a bi-racial child is born the hospital MUST go by the mother.
I had it changed later, because one of my daughters is very dark even though she is bi-racial.
but it was funny to see "white" on the wrist and ankle bracelets at the hospital

My child is Bi-racial; black and white. I always put other when asked because bi-racial isn't on the forms. I wouldn't want him to get any advantage in one way or the other. I think it's abusing the system to put him down as white for some things and black for others. It doesn't sound fair.

Neither. Bi-racial children are of two races, not one or the other.

In the old days, it used to be determined by the mother.
but now, we say that the children are equally 50-50 in both races.

In my case, it was the one I looked more like. I'm half Eastern Cherokee and half Irish, but without Manic Panic Flash Lightning hair, I look more Cherokee. That's what I identify as.

People who don't know the child will go by skin color. Parents usually go with the father and relatives go by prejudice.

It's probably determined by economics...for example.
white and black....bi race children.
If their economic outlook is good they would be considered white.
If their economic outlook is bad they would be thrown into the minority group.
It a way for minority rights people to seperate the haves and have nots.
