I live in the desert at a high-altitude (about 6500 feet). Although it has not solved all of our problems, a humidifier has helped a lot. Since we couldn't afford a whole house system, we use one in the living room and in the bedroom. I also keep a large pot of water on the stove on the lowest heat when the house is extra dry. In the room that we hardly ever use, I have a bucket of water with rolled up newspaper in it to serve as a humidifier. I have to change the paper and water about every three days.
We do try to wear cotton clothes around the house. I often spray the carpet around the light switches with Static Guard. I don't hold the can that close to the carpet.
I know how annoying the problem can be. Good luck!

A humidifier will help your problem. If you still get those small shocks you could first touch the object with a piece of metal such as a key or a coin to discharge the shock and then you will not get the shock with your fingers.

try using one of the spray products for static cling in clothing.Spray a small amount over the rug let dry and this will last for two to three weeks until you need to reapply. It will not hurt your rug,as it does not hurt even the finest clothing.I live in a cold dry climate and that's what we do in my household. And it works extremely well
