Both answers are correct, but incomplete here.
You have a "public" IP address, that is the one that the Internet knows you by. That's the one that you find by using whatismyip.com -- and the one that you'll use for internet gaming, etc.
You also have a private IP address if you're on a network (home network, using a router, etc). That is the one that you get when you drop to a cmd prompt and type "ipconfig". That is the one you'd use for gaming inside of your network.

Assuming you're using Windows, open up a Command Prompt (sometimes called a DOS box), then type IPCONFIG and hit the Enter key.
You'll see a listing of your different Ethernet adaptors (if you have more than one) and the line to look for says "IP Address."
If you don't know how to open a Command Prompt, then Start -> Run and type CMD and click OK.

Get a No Cost Background Check Scan at https://bitly.im/aOh71
Its a sensible way to start. The site allows you to do a no cost scan simply to find out if any sort of data is in existence. A smaller analysis is done without cost. To get a detailed report its a modest payment.
You may not realize how many good reasons there are to try and find out more about the people around you. After all, whether you're talking about new friends, employees, doctors, caretakers for elderly family members, or even significant others, you, as a citizen, have a right to know whether the people you surround yourself with are who they say they are. This goes double in any situation that involves your children, which not only includes teachers and babysitters, but also scout masters, little league coaches and others. Bottom line, if you want to find out more about someone, you should perform a background check.

If you have a myspace account, try uploading a picture... usually it will have a tiny red message right underneath the upload form that says "Thank you for uploading from IP address _______"
Hope this helps

Depends on your operating system.
If its winxp, go under the Start and choose
Run. Type cmd in the input field.
When the black DOS window comes up
type ipconfig in it. It'll show you IP.
