what are some good topics I can write a story about?

I want to write a story but i dont know about what,any ideas for a topic,i'd prefer stuff about dragons and mythical creatures.

ok im going with almightygt6's answer but now i need to know a name for the female dragon's (his caretaker) name

You're approaching fiction writing all wrong. Clear your mind of any ideas whatsoever. Write an opening sentence, any sentence, then just take the story from there. Allow your imagination to make up the story as it goes. Here's an opening sentence. You can edit it out in later drafts, but the only idea you really need for a story is the first sentence. Sometimes it's good for someone else to give you the first sentence because it will cause a creative reaction in you.

Stories should be written the way they are read, one sentence at a time. At some point in your tale, you will feel the need to come up with an ending so you can start angling the story toward that ending, but until then, clear your mind of any ideas. Write the story the way the reader reads the story. One sentence at a time. Then edit the heck out of it.

Opening sentence: "Nothing would grow."

You could always do the classic good against evil..or maybe have the mythical creatures waring with eachother. Or have a human grow up with mythical creatures and go into civilization or even better vice-versa.

Murder stories are good. They open up the dark side of you and your reader. They give you something to think - if your aiming for mythical creatures do a thriller using them...i've done it. IT came out really good. Kinda Roleplayed a few people from video games but it came out well. Try it.
