If you have the 3.0L OHV V6, go to the Ford dealership parts department to pick up an oil pan gasket. They are updated to a hard plastic composite type gasket, which don't do stretch and push through like the rubber style, which is probably what happened to your car, causing engine oil to leak onto the catalytic converter. This could also be the reason your oil light is flickering, due to low oil level, from leaking out rapidly. The gasket is inexpensive. If you don't want the dealer to replace it, just buy the part from the dealer, and have a mechanic you trust to do it for you. The part number is 2U1Z-6710-AA. Hope this helps.

i own a repair shop, and you need to check the oil in it,and see if it is completely full,,there's a good possibility that it might have a leak in it somewhere and that might be what your smelling right now,it may be burning it off of the engine ,if you check the oil and find that its low,,try and see if you can see any wet spots on the engine,,because the only time the light should come on,,is when it gets low on oil,,but check it out,and if its leaking id take it back to them, and see if they would repair it,,good luck with it ,i hope this help,s.
