I noticed that with a lot of people especially guys. I overheard some dudes making fun of a fat girl right in front of her face. She looked like her feelings was hurt and I thought that was so cruel. If a personis fat does that give other people the right to talk about them in front of them as if they arent standing there?

Nobody should make fun of other people's shortcomings. It's only because small people need to feel big by knocking others down. They are weak before the strong, so they seize a chance to feel strong before someone that is perhaps weaker than themselves. Sometimes I get beat up by others from my own weaknesses and shortcomings, but it reminds me how selfish I was doing it to someone else. I feel like crap for awhile, but it's a great wisdom producing experience.

No, it does not give them the right to make fun of them or anybody else. I have been made fun of before because of my face and that really hurt my feelings and I'd get depressed. People ask me why I am so nice. I just don't make fun of others or talk about others. You see, words have an effect. I could say something mean to somebody and they could commit suicide over it. You don't know what other people are going through. If you see those jerks or people making fun of people, step in, tell them to back off. Somebody has to be the hero in this situation. My cousin is a very very fat woman and she is so beautiful to me for she carries herself like a queen. Treat the girl with kindness, compliment her,be the first to boost her confidence. Good luck!

Well, some guys are insensitive jerks. Fat people are the last group of people that are socially acceptable to make fun of, and some people really take advantage of that. Just because someone has a weight problem doesn't mean that they don't have feelings.

Did you do anything to stop it? Did you register your disapproval of what they were doing? Maybe if you just stepped up to the girl and said "Hi", you could have diffused the situation. Or maybe you could have changed the subject and given her a way out of there.
You are right about it hurting people's feelings. And, chances are, it won't help her get motivated to lose weight. It will just lower her self-esteem and make her more prone to weight gain and misery.
For the dudes making fun:
Just think, what if she was you and you were her? Would you like to have done to you what you did to her? Please be honest with yourself. Surely you can find something more constructive to do with your time and energy.

No, that's horrible to make fun of people, especially if they can hear you. Cruel people need to realize there are NO guarantees in life. Anything can happen to anybody in an given time. Be careful what you say!

People need to learn to stand up for themselves. Just because someone is overweight doesn't mean people need to poke fun but.... it also doesn't mean everyone has to be nice to them just because of that.
