It's a batter that is on the motherboard and is about the size of a nickel. Usually they are 2032 )size and you can pick them up @ walmart for around $2-$3 for a twin pack. They keep the bios running remembering all the rom chips settings incase of power loss. If the battery runs down it wll no keep settings. If your time keeps defaulting time to around 2001 when rebooting that usually means the CMOS battery is dead..Thanks

It is a quarter size battery located on the motherboard. It saves the setting of your BIOS. Computers made in the last 5-7 years use a 2032 size battery. This can be for at most department store for about $3, and should be changed out every 2-3 years to avoid problems.

It's the battery that is used to power the cmos, the chip that regulates the time and other minor details in the computer. Don't let it run out, otherwise you will be sorry.

Thats the battery that protects your valuable CMOS data when your desktop isn't powered on. Most recent motherboards come with coin shaped lithium/manganese-dioxide batteries that look like large watch batteries. These batteries are advertised to have a life span of five years. That's longer than many people keep their PCs!
