Help! My computer is only 2 weeks old and the cd drive is stuck. I called Gateway technical support and they said to stick a paper clip into the hole by the release button. I tried that several times but nothing happens. When I press the eject button, my computer makes this noise like its TRYING to open, but it can't. I bought the floor model computer cuz they were out of them and it was a clearance model so I don't know if Best Buy will fix it free or what. Am I totally screwed or does anyone have any suggestions besides the paperclip thing?

On reading your question, I was about to suggest the old 'paper-clip' routine, but seeing that you've tried that, it's no good.

Here are 2 things you can try out :

1. I know this may sound crazy, but go to "My Computer", right-click on the problematic CD drive, and click on 'Eject'. Believe it or not, I've seen a PC that opened the drive only thru this method !!

2. If you are feeling a little adventurous, open the casing of your PC, and check to see if all connections to your CD drive are firmly in place. Sometimes, a loose connection can cause havoc !!

So, do try this out. If all fails, then I'm afraid the only way is to call up Best Buy or some computer technician.

You could always call best buy and see if they will fix it, but otherwise you might need a long paper clip, I know that some drives do, but you might have gotten a disc jammed in it, so you might need to open up the drive casing, or if you don't know how then have someone else do it for you!!

The paperclip trick does work but be aware that sometimes you have to get it in a long way,and/or fiddling around just to find the lever/button,I had problems finding it once so try again.

Take it back to best buy and let one of their techs do it for $20. If they break it then they pay for it.
