Years ago Nike, Adidas, Reebok used to be cool, quality clothing, (as opposed to plain unbranded cheap clothes). Now though, people seem to hate them because they say that they are what chavs' wear (as sports brand clothing is much cheaper now). So nowadays, are the plain unbranded cheap clothes not chav? What do people who aren't chavs wear? Are brown leather hiking boots chav? Is Yves Saint Lauren Chav?

If you want to wear leisure wear and look upper middle class instead of working class, go to outdoor persuit shop brands such as North Face and Berghaus along with others are best. Reebok and branded designer wear are for the working class who like to wear their wealth and live in cheap houses. It looks far classier to wear a North Face jacket at say £100-£200 which is practical and is not about just the name. If you choose this look at least you will look educated look at watch journalist out doors wear.

I think it is a misconception that only certain brands of clothing are chav. A nice burberry handbag which does not have the "check" on it if worn with other elegant clothing looks lovely. It is this trend among the chavs to wear as many labels as possible with the labels showing that makes them chav. I, for instance have a lovely Armani handbag but it does not say Armani anywhere on it other than inside. Real style does not need to scream where it was bought. It is more about finding your own personal style, finding what suits your body shape (and budget) and making yourself look elegant. An outfit from New Look can look as great as any designer providing you choose the right pieces and accessorise properly. Jeans are jeans and always look nice no matter where they come from if they suit you - however tracksuit bottoms should be confined to the gym, the sports ground or the chav population.

Chavs are all about stereotyping classes. Many rich upper class were once the key role and image sent on designer gear and well known sports branding.
But over the years brands have become more affordable, leading people on benefits and lower classed to be able to afford these makes... making the status of chav...
So i would say a chav is someone who has gone overboard on the designer gear.. the type that has the whole set and wears the stuff completely wrong.
Take for example Vicky pollard off Little britain... shes the typical chav, living on a council estate wearing kappa jacket with cheap argos hoop earrings, and tracksuit bottoms and trainers that just do not look right.
Then there is Stacey Slater off eastenders, even thou i have not seen her in any sportsgear or designer gear.. she is a chav... Tight tops, short skirts... wearing walford market earrings.. false nails and very rude manners.
So who is not a chav?
Victoria beckham. Her class is upper... she has millions and star status.. however im sure if she never made it and lived on a council estate... she would then be a CHAV.

It depends on the design. If an item of clothing has 'NIKE' or 'LE COQ SPORTIF' emblazoned in huge letters around it (chavs are stupid and think that they are badges of honour rather than walking adverts) then it's chavvy. However, you can buy and wear items made by the same companies but with more discrete branding and that's acceptable. Also, only wear sports clothes if you intend to partake in some sport.

When Nike and Adidas make their products I don't think they intend to sell them to chavs. Chavs are the ones that decide to wear them so at the end of the day no clothes are chavvy.

Buy designer clothes like Valentino, Desiel, Guggi, Next, Gap. Trust me - I have these types of clothes because I hate Chavs.

well, spring dresses with teeny tiny little flowers on them are NOT the coolest thing to wear. Also, baggy clothing is totally out. Leather boots are in, definetely. tunics and leggings, or maybe just plain jeans with a cool t-shirt: that's hat you want to wear.
